NPFL Week 24 Recap: Plateau Remain Top; No Single Away Draw/Win Recorded


Plateau United extended their leadership in the Nigeria Professional Football League table following their 5-1 home win against Gombe United.

A brace from Peter Eneji both from the penalty spot on six and 44 minutes and a goal each from Elisha Gombe, Kabiru Umar and Emeka Umeh in the 22nd, 79th and 83rd minutes respectively secured the win for Plateau United.

Gombe’s only goal was scored by Mannir Ubale in the ninth minute from the penalty spot.

Plateau are now on 45 points, five clear of second placed MFM FC of Lagos.

At the Agege Stadium, Stephen Odey returned to MFM’s starting eleven as they edged struggling Shooting Stars of Ibadan 1-0 at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The only goal of the game was scored by Monday Shishinma in the 21st minute off an assist from Shola Brossa.

The win took MFM to second in the league table on 40 points, while Shooting Stars dropped to the bottom.

Title contenders El Kanemi Warriors lost 3-0 away to Katsina United in a Northern clash.

A brace from Musa Suleiman in the first and 48th minutes and a solitary strike from Obinna Eleje on 74 minutes condemned El-Kanemi to their second defeat in their last three games (D1).

El Kanemi are now fifth in the table, eight points behind leaders Plateau United following the loss to Katsina United.

In the Oriental derby in Calabar, Enyimba beat Abia Warriors2-1.

Both teams had a man sent off with three minutes left as Enyimba’s Kelly Kester and Chinedu Ozor of Abia Warriors were given their marching orders for misconduct.

Mfon Udoh scored twice in the 19th and 46th minute to put Enyimba 2-0 up.

In the 64th minute, Abia Warriors pulled a goal back through Chimezie Amanfour to make for a nervy end but Enyimba held on to claim the win.

Udoh’s brace means he has now scored 10 goals for Enyimba this season, who are now third with 38 points.
