NPFL Week 22: MFM End IfeanyiUbah Unbeaten Run; Plateau Stay Top Despite Loss
MFM FC returned to winning ways after going winless in their last three league games as they pipped FC IfeanyiUbah 1-0 to end the Nnewi’s side unbeaten run.
MFM’s goal was scored by Adebayo Waheed in the 19th minute off an assist from Monsuru Bashiru.
The duo of Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun returned to action for MFM after featuring in the Super Eagles’ two friendly games against Corsica and Togo.
In Calabar, Enyimbaedged leaders Plateau United 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal by Andrew Abalogu. Abalogu’s goal was scored in the 70th minute of the encounter. Despite the defeat, Plateau are still top on the log on 39 points, two points above second-placed MFM, while Enyimba climbed to the fifth position on 34 points.
Elswhere, title contenders El-Kanemi Warriors could not capitalise on Plateau’s slip-up as they lost 2-1 to Wikki Tourists in Bauchi. Ismail Gbabayanand Festus Umanah scored in the second and 68th minutes respectively to give Wikki a 2-0 lead.
Efe Yarherepulled a goal back for El-Kanemi with three minutes left but Wikki held on to claim their eighth win of the season. El-Kanemi now drop to third in the league table on 36 points following the loss.
At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, Shooting Stars halted their run of three defeats with a 1-0 win against Sunshine Stars.
Ibrahim Ajani was the hero for Shooting Stars as his seventh minute goal secured the win for his side who still remain 19th in the league table.
In Enugu, champions Rangershad to dig deep to force Nasarawa Unitedto a 1-1 draw. Nasarawa seemed to be heading for an unlikely win when Thomas Zenke gave them the lead on 75 minutes.
But with 10 minutes left, Godwin Aguda scored to help salvage a point for his team.
In Kano, Kano Pillarsovercame Lobi Stars 2-1. A brace from Nyima Nwangwa in the 36th and 49th minutes gave Pillars a comfortable lead. Lobi Stars made the game a nervy affair with five minutes left when Uchenne Eze scored.
In other results, Katsina United edged visiting Abia Warriors 1-0, Gombe lost 2-0 away to bottom team Remo Stars and ABS, playing at home, beat Niger Tornadoes 2-1.
