Today's Gossip: Spurs Slap £50m On Dier; Plus Latest On Ronaldo

United must pay £50m for Dier
Manchester United will have to pay Tottenham Hotspur £50 million if they want to sign midfielder Eric Dier, the Telegraph reports.

It says Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's valuation "is more than United expected to pay for the 23-year-old England international."

Dier has emerged as a leading target for United boss Jose Mourinho, who "regards him as the long-term replacement for Michael Carrick."

The Telegraph adds that Mourinho "has made it very clear that he wants Dier," who also played in defence for Spurs last season but is seen as a key component of a revamped Old Trafford midfield.

United, though, will have to dig deep to bring him to Manchester, with the player having signed a new deal in September and Levy unwilling to budge from his valuation.

Chelsea confident over Courtois deal

Thibaut Courtois might have turned down Chelsea's initial contract offer, but there's no need for Blues fans to worry, says the Evening Standard.
Courtois has been linked with Real Madrid, but the Standard says both the Belgium international and Chelsea have "a willingness to come to an agreement."

Further negotiations will take place when Courtois returns to London for preseason, after "both parties agreed amicably to resume discussions in July."

The Standard reports that Courtois, who has two years of his contract to run, "is looking for in the region of £200,000 a week" and adds Chelsea's confidence that a deal will be struck was demonstrated when they sold No. 2 Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth, with Willy Caballero set to arrive as backup keeper.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have had a £55.2m bid for left-back Alex Sandro turned down by Juventus, according to the Mail.

However, the report says the Brazil international "has been told the club will not stand in his way if he makes it clear he wants to move."

Hammers keen on Kone

Sunderland defender Lamine Kone is a wanted man and West Ham want him most, according to the Mirror.
It says the Hammers "are in pole position to land Kone" and believe they can seal a deal for around £10m, despite the fact that Sunderland are looking closer to £15m.

The centre-back is keen to leave the Stadium of Light following Sunderland's relegation and is also interesting West Bromwich Albion, who were "priced out of a move for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho" and could lose Jonny Evans, a target for Leicester, in the summer.
